Rogowski Coil Current Sensors

Applications: The Rogowski Coil current sensor is suitable for measuring alternating electric currents (AC) and/ or fluctuating DC electric current pulses over a very wide operating range. Incorporating a Rogowski Coil current sensor into products used for electric power measurement, electric power quality monitoring, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or electric power distribution grid protective relays takes advantage of these performance characteristics. The Rogowski Coil current sensor is ideal in applications where it is necessary that the sensor be capable of responding to a wide operating current range, a wide frequency range and/ or is exposed to harsh operating conditions.

Technology: The sensor operates on the principle that a voltage is induced in a coil whose plane is perpendicular to the conductor carrying the electrical current and perpendicular to the primary current magnetic flux. The induced voltage is proportional to the rate of change of the current in the primary conductor. Integrating the resulting voltage signal (integral of dv/dt) provides a measurement of the current in the primary conductor.
